MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT LUKE CHONG TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2008:
How time flies! Another year goes by like a swift flowing rushing stream and along with it bearing our sweet memories
of the many wonderful times we have had in school.
Remember what mentors and friends we have made in our alma mater! Think of those good, bad and ugly persons who have shaped
our lives, making us better citizens in this world.They may be teachers and even the principal himself, and yes, certainly
the friends we made would have played a major role in our outlook of the world around us.
Above all, as Columbans in a Christian mission school that has never sought to impose its good religious values on anyone,
you will have experienced the spirit of tolerance for all humans in society regardless of their race, color and creed.
Columbans have and will never be bigots in our society who are ignorant of the world around them. To these bigots, often
selfishly playing to publicity and popularity, their religion is the only true one and they will not compromise with other
religions in a civilized world. They live in an island paradise of their own, fantasizing conspiracies and making a mountain
out of a molehill, creating trouble over trivial matters such as our historical crosses in mission schools. They would not
have taken the trouble to study and to deeply learn about the religions of others before attacking and seeking to disturb
them.
As you leave this great school, may our School Song, which was penned by my dearest Australian aunt, Pamela Heyward, following
the 1969 race riots in Kuala Lumpur, be forever ringing in your ears:
Between the hillside and the sea,
We work and play here in harmony,
May steadfast service and loyalty,
Bring wider visions of unity.
May we love beauty,
the hills and the sea;
Find solace in music,
and sweet poetry.
May we love learning,
Cherish peace.
Quiet and stillness
When labours cease.
Rise above anger,
Overcome pride;
Filled with the spirit,
May God be our guide.
Channels of blessing
and peace from above,
Fearless of evil,
Strengthened with love.
I wish all of you well as you go forth in the world and achieve your ambitions. May God bless all of you.
